Joe and I found out that Owl House is having a set dinner menu this evening, and as a result we decided to go there for lunch while Matthew was still with Mimi (my mom).
Win!

For dinner, it looks like we’ll be stuck with the original plan (to please my rib-lovin’ nephew), and we’re going to the Beale Street Cafe. I don’t want to be negative, but I looked at pics of their food online, and I’m anticipating eating something I don’t really want. Or maybe I’ll just get a cocktail. No complaints though…there’s not much I’d rather do than make my little love happy.
Joe and I were also discussing our possible New Year’s resolutions—I’m not going to call them that, because that screams failure set-up. I am going to set goals though. One is to drop the coffee/caffeine (which is only an occasional habit anyway). Another is to go as gluten-dairy-soy-meat-egg free as I can. I don’t anticipate a 100% success rate, but if I focus I can do a lot better (and feel a lot better) than last year. I have a few other ideas, but nothing concrete yet—I will clean my workspace on Monday…maybe that will help.
What do you plan to improve about your health for 2011?
That smoked trout hummus looks amazing! I am going to phase in organic dairy products this year. We've been totally organic/grown locally or USA for produce and eggs for years now, so now I think it's time to add dairy to the mix. I've been having trouble rationalizing the cost given the amount my family 0f 6 consumes in a week. Consistently buying organic/local meat is next on the list.
Sounds like lunch was delicious! I definitely plan to eat more meat-free meals during the week, although I just can't go completely meat-free just yet!
OMG… I NEED Daiya mozz sticks in my life!!! 😀
You could not be more right with resolutions setting you up for a definite fail! I don't make them either. I like to think of how to improve things, but not to the point that I won't be able to achieve them…there is already enough let down in life. I am definitely going to work on eating more seasonal and locally.
Now, those mozz sticks…I need some of those! Hhave a great night!
I like the idea of easing into it and phasing in the organic. Sometimes I jump into “changes” too fast and then I end up back at square one!
Happy New Year 🙂
Hi Peggy,
I like the idea of being meat free…but I'm not sure I'm ready to totally give up crab cakes yet! There's no rush 🙂
Lisa
Yes Christin, You (and the whole world!) definitely need Daiya Mozz sticks. They're so good it's not even funny!
Happy New Year 🙂
Lisa
Hi Sarena,
I am totally on board with eating more seasonal and locally!
The mozz sticks are so good—I plan to go back later this week and get more 🙂
Happy New Year!
Lisa
The Owl House looks delicious! Especially those vegan mozzarella sticks and the hard cider 🙂
To improve my health in 2011 I am going to incorporate strength training into my mostly cardio workout routine.
Hi Ashleigh,
Thanks for the comment! I think the vegan mozz sticks may be in my top ten
foods of the year 🙂 They really are awesome—I might try and replicate
them at some point (or maybe I'll just keep going to Owl House!).
Strength training is something I'm going to try to do more too—cardio just
seems so much “easier!”
Happy New Year,
Lisa
