Weekend Greens

This weekend I decided I would focus on ingesting more greens—-smoothies and juice. Right now, I’m not growing any wheatgrass—I have to buy more wheatberries, and to be completely honest, I’m way too busy right now to do anything extra (except I am watching Swiss Family Robinson right now with Matthew and Joey in preparation for our Disney trip in June).

Due to being busy, and still wanting to fit in working out and yoga (and sleep and the sauna….and spending time with my family), I need to make sure I have enough nutrients. I also invested in the awesome Greenstar juicer, so I need to use it!

My first concoction involved the blender. These are some of my favorite things—why not combine them into a super-duper power green drink!?

Ingredients for the Swamp Thing!

Swamp Thing Smoothie

8-12 oz Coconut water (depending on how thick you want it)
2 tsp Maca powder
2 tsp Sun Is Shining Green powder
1/2 scoop Vega Sport
1/2 tsp MSM powder
1/4 tsp Camu Camu powder
1 Tbsp Tart Cherry Juice concentrate

Blend. This was tangy and yummy!  But if you’re not used to green stuff, ease into it!

Swamp Thing: Tangy and a Little Fizzy---Packs a great Energy Punch, Enhance Muscle Recovery, Reduces Inflammation, and Clears Skin!

Today I made Green V7 Juice:

1 apple, 1 lemon, 2 stalks celery, 1/8 bunch cilantro, 1/8 bunch parsley, 1 stalk kale, 5 huge dandelion greens, 1 cucumber, 1 head broccoli
Chop it!
Enlist a Helper or Two
Juice----you could use a centrifugal juicer too. The Juiceman Pro or the Breville are both great!
This juice is super bitter and a little sour---Love it! If you'd like it to taste more like lemonade, add more apples!!!

If this seems a little intense, or the ingredients seem a little obscure, start somewhere more normal for you. A year ago, I would have never made either one of these drinks….but I started somewhere, and kept trying new things till I got to where I am now. You don’t have to try or like bitter extreme green swampy drinks like I do, but there are plenty of ways to make a simple green smoothie that’s really yummy, healthy, and doesn’t taste like you’re drinking a salad!
