Fitness Update and #WineFriday!

Happy Wine Friday! Tweet #winefriday to me if you’re indulging today ๐Ÿ™‚

I haven’t bought it yet, by my Wine Friday wine of choice this evening is going to be Heron Hill Chardonnay.

I’d post a pic, but I don’t have it yet, and I still can’t find the battery charger for my camera. (I haven’t looked super hard though)

Today, I just have a quick update on fitness because Matthew is waiting for me…and although he got a new cell phone (his dad’s old one) that he’s obsessed with currently, I don’t think that will occupy him all day!

Yesterday, in a nutshell, I did yoga at 5:30am (bad idea–it was hard, and I was not into it), walked from 6-6:30, worked, walked from 12:30-12:50, did push-ups, lunges, and crunches at 3, did squats at 4, and walked for 20 minutes. Then in the evening, Matthew, Joe and I rode bikes for an hour.

Things I skipped: rebounder at 1:15 (too busy and not ready for my 1:30 webinar), kettlebell and sun salutations at 4pm (but I subbed in a walk–it felt more manageable). I also skipped my nap/reading time in favor of getting some work done.

Today: I walked for 30 minutes at 5:45am, and now I need to work on doing something else, I had a meeting this morning, so I’m behind already.

I don’t have any conclusions yet—but I think I need a few days under my belt to detect anything different in energy level, etc.

What did you do to be active today? Note: I’m distinguishing between activity and exercise—leisurely walking at 5:45am may actually have more of an impact on my psychological health than anything else…and kettlebells and lunges will have more impact on my physical health. My current plan is a combo of both–movement/exercise. Though I suppose the opposite for both is being sedentary!

Do you think 7 is too young for a cell phone? I’m not in charge of the decision for Matthew to have one or not.

Will you be indulging in #WineFriday?ย  What is your favorite wine?

I love a good pinot noir and will definitely have a glass with pizza tonight ๐Ÿ˜‰

Today is my rest day so no exercise. I need to get off my rear and be more active though. Hopefully some shopping will remedy that LOL

  2. I don’t have children, so perhaps I am not in any position to say anything, but I do think 7 is too young for a phone, solely because when on earth would they be away from an adult long enough to need one? I didn’t have one until I was 16 (it was also a parent hand me down) and only because I started driving and it made my parents feel more comfortable. I suppose it’s a different, more tech-savvy world now.ย

I probably won’t have any wine on my birthday, since we’re driving to Florida, but I will definitely be indulging in a few spirits this weekend! ๐Ÿ™‚ Have a great weekend!

  3. I’m interested to see how your energy levels change. I know I have more energy on the days I’m on the go verses, days I’m lounging around so it makes sense.ย

I think that 7 is a too young to have a cell phone, maybe a good age is in their teen years?? I’m not a parent so who knows! Every kid is different too so it just depends.ย

    Have a great weekend!

  4. WINE FRIDAY?!?! I am so in.ย  I am a total red wine snob.ย  I used to hate the stuff but now I find it hard to have anything but red.ย  And I think 7 is way too young to have a cell phone.ย  What is that 2nd grade?!

  5. It’s so funny you say that…I have been totally “Red Only” for like
4 years, and recently I decided I would try and appreciate some whites…It’s hard!
I live in wine country, so I am making the effort…
Matthew is going into 3rd grade (he’ll be 8 soon), and the cell
phone is already challenging me. He was with me all day, and he texted to me, “Hi” approximately 8 times. He also called me twice, and I just don’t know about this…I hope the novelty wears off (or he drops it in a pond or something).

  6. I’m not a parent either…so I am trying so hard to be open about the cell phone thing (only because I have no say!)…Matthew just left my house 30 minutes ago…and he just called me to say “hi.” I love that he can connect, but I’m afraid he’s going to get in trouble with it! 7. I didn’t have a cell phone till college and it had some crazy plan that I could only use it if I had an emergency. It was approximately the size of a brick ๐Ÿ™‚
I feel like 7 is to young too—he doesn’t have the sense enough to not get in trouble with it. …and he’s been calling and texting everyone he knows (all relatives) today just to say “hi.”

  9. i will not be doing wine today but thumbs up to you, and enjoy your time with matthew!

my fitness today was elliptical and weights at 7 a.m. and now i’m going
to walk a bunch of errands! yoga first thing in the morning would NOT go
over well for me, either! glad you had a lot of fitness breaks in your
day yesterday, though! i’ll look forward to hearing more – your plan
    totally interests me!

have a great time with matthew! seven years old for a phone? i’d
probably say in this day and age, yes, as a security measure. NOT as a
socializing tool – too young! ๐Ÿ™‚

  10. I agree on the phone thing…and matthew has called me twice and texted me since he left an hour ago! I love it because I love being connected to him, but I am worried that he will get in trouble with it. At least the only numbers in his contact list are family members…He must have called everybody at least twice today, and thinks he is just so cool. I’m banking on the novelty wearing off (except, I hope he keeps calling me!).
    …morning yoga…ugh!

  11. today I was cleaning as my exercise for the day, it is my active rest day ๐Ÿ™‚ I would be joining you in winefriday but I have an early morning flight tomorrow, I will have some wine on Saturday in honor of it though ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. My activity so far today has been weights, cleaning, and laundry. And tonight I’m going out dancing!ย

I don’t even know what age kids should get cell phones. I got my first when I was a sophomore in HS but I get that it’s different now, and cell phones can be an important lifeline in an emergency. So I guess that makes them worth it.ย

  13. please enjoy the wine for me – I may have to put mine off until next week (Jason and I are both sick and I wouldn’t want to WASTE the wine by not tasting it!!) ๐Ÿ˜€ might make me feel better, though?

not having kids, it’s really hard to say! one side yes – for safety andย necessity, and the other side, no, unless it’s monitored. we put a friend’s kid on our cell plan (long story – we help out with $ and… stuff) and he had 9800 texts in one month!! it was unlimited, but then we found out he was close to failing a class (he’s 14). so we took out text plan and the rule was only out of necessity should he use the phone (coordinating rides, etc). luckily he is a good kid and doesn’t abuse it. the other part of it is – I just think of ME at a younger age, I was outside playing and interacting with my friends… kids now are on the computer / phone way too much, for the most part.ย

enjoy wine Friday for me please, and have a great weekend!!

  14. I’m not actually doing wine friday tonight- but I’m there in spirit ๐Ÿ™‚ I’ve never had Heron Hill before- let us know how it is!
