Healthy Product Review and $25 Gift Card Giveaway!

I recently received several products to review from Swanson, and wanted to use them each more than once before I put my name next to an opinion.

Before I get started….go check out my guest post on Lindsay’s blog, Cotter Crunch!

Anthony from Swanson Health Products sent me: Tom’s toothpaste, Xylosweet, Dulse powder, ground flax, and hand soap. I had used most of these things in a different variety before, so I was happy to try them out. Read the review…or skip to the bottom and enter the giveaway! Β You can win a $25 gift certificate to Swanson Health Products—it’s an online store where you can get all kinds of healthy products.

The reason all the pictures have me holding the products is because I live in NY where it’s dark and gray, and in order to use natural light…I need to be near a window (and my desk was covered with papers!).

Purple Dulse Powder

I used the Purple Dulse Powder in several things: soup, salad dressing, salad, chickpea surprise

I usually use dulse flakes in chickpea surprise...and thought the powder might be even better because it is so finely ground. I loved the taste, but rather than sprinkling it on I accidentally dumped it...like this.
But it still turned out great! The only downside I can think of to this is that it has sort of an essence of "seawater." That's not a taste I mind, but if you do, you won't like this stuff! Then again, if you just sprinkle it, I don't think you'll taste seawater. Sea vegetables are super good for you!
Fine Milled Flaxseed

I like this Fine Milled Flax—and will definitely buy it again. It’s different than regular ground flaxseed because it is finely ground into a powder, so it blends better into smoothies and other stuff. I put it in several smoothies, and only noticed it when I put in too much… The benefits of flax? Omegas, dietary fiber, antioxidants, immune boost…

There's flax in here....but you can't see it and I couldn't taste it

Xylitol is supposed to be good for your teeth...and it's low glycemic and low calorie (and not made with crazy chemicals)

I put the Xylosweet in my coffee for a few days (and then I decided to stop drinking coffee again). I put it in a few smoothies, and in some protein ice cream. It was good! It doesn’t taste exactly like sugar, but there’s no weird aftertaste or anything.

The hand soap—it’s great. Not a ton to say about the hand soap, except that I like it and it doesn’t feel or smell like chemicals but it still seems like it works!

Meyer's Clean Day hand soap

The toothpaste!

Tom's of Maine Fennel flavored toothpaste. LOVE!

I saved the best for last….I was not super excited about this one. I once used a trial size of Tom’s a few years ago and thought it was yucky. This? It’s like brushing your teeth with black jelly beans! In a good way. Joe loves it too. I got Fennel flavor, and I would have never chosen this flavor, but I like it a lot. Plus, it works really well–my teeth felt really clean after I used it. I totally recommend this, especially if you are a fan of licorice. It’s a little more gooey than regular toothpaste.

  1. I'm totally a fan of purple dulse — i even put it in yogurt once! It makes everything such a pretty color. This summer when I was on a ayurvedic cleanse I used flax seeds a LOT — they have so many nutritional benefits, it's pretty rad.

I also added swanson vitamins on my facebook!

  2. purple dulse? I would love to try that! I use their flaxseed all the time. Love it! And thank you for your amazing guest post.
I'm going to go like Swanson on FB right now!
    Cheers,
    LC

Yumm what kind of toothpaste it is? Black jelly beans are my absolute FAVORITE!!! Also, I liked Swanson Vitamins on Facebook πŸ™‚

  6. I *liked* Swanson Vitamins on Facebook! I also liked that they were from Fargo! That movie is my favorite! Random. Sorry!

Can I also say that I LOVED your guest post. Spot on about the comparison to food and how people act in other situations in life.

Is it weird that when family law clients come into the office with tons of drama I have a checklist of questions I always ask and I find myself always wanting to ask *and tell me what you eat?* haha. They'd probably look at me like I was crazy. But I'm always curious. πŸ™‚

Great reviews! I always have golden flax on hand- love that stuff! And I would definitely want to try the Xylosweet (I think its awesome that it doesn't have a weird after taste). Hope you have a great weekend

  8. Love the reviews! I like the ground flax in particular, I could definitely see how it would be the perfect, unnoticeable addition to a smoothie. πŸ™‚

  10. I love flaxseed! I added some to my oats this morning, that flaxseed looks better than the plain one I have ; ) I hope you have a great Sunday! xo

  11. Oh wow, does that berry/flax smoothie look amazing! I've never bought the fine milled kind, but I bet it blends in so nicely! The dulse sounds like a great pairing with chickpeas!
