6 Year-Old Breakfast

My nephew is spending a couple days with me, and this always presents a fun food challenge.  He ate a big salad for dinner last night, and that was great.  But, in general, we face some challenges about how to compromise on my priorities (healthy) and his (tasting and looking good).

We stopped at Wegmans last night to pick up some things that will hopefully fulfill our food needs for the next day (especially since it’s 8 degrees out right now, and neither one of us wants to go outside anytime soon!).

This is what we ended up with:

raspberries, bananas, clementines, grapes (with seeds—-I cut them in half and take the seeds out for him), strawberries, apples, kombucha (for me), coconut ice cream

Most of the produce was organic, except the grapes—I washed those really well, but I’m still not completely clear on whether that makes enough of a difference.

Matthew likes to peel the clementines so I’m sure we’ll be eating a lot of those.

Out of our groceries and other things I had on hand, this was his breakfast:

In the middle of the fruit are unprocessed raw macadamia nuts and cashew butter that I made for something else and had leftover

Truthfully, Matthew only ate the clementine, grapes, and strawberries—now he’s munching on the apples as he watches Curious George.  He wouldn’t touch the cashew butter or nuts, and wasn’t in mood for raspberries, but I don’t think he was very hungry either. I have high hopes for lunch!
