California Sabbatical Ends Today

I’ve been in California for an entire year. I have not done much of what I expected I’d do, and everything turned out differently that I anticipated… I’m calling that a complete success! I feel like I really went with the flow and didn’t try to control outcomes when what to do next wasn’t always obvious.

This was actually one of the best years of my life, even if it was pretty uncertain at times. My other best year was when Matthew was about 6 years old. I’m not going to recount what I did during this past year–it doesn’t feel like it matters much, and most of why it was a great year isn’t associated with what I accomplished. It was a lot about the people, the beach, my routine, loving my apartment and surroundings, and some other stuff I’ll fill you in on soon!

I know when I moved into my apartment last October, I promised I would give you a video tour and I never did it. I kept thinking I’d get that last thing up on the wall, so I was waiting till that happened. Except… I never made it happen. So I decided now is as good a time as any to show you where I live (and I better do it now because I’m moving in September). I’m only moving about four miles away from where I am now, and I’m really excited about it. I love my apartment, but it’s time to move on! (I’ll fill you in soon, I swear).

My Mom and Matthew are here visiting this week, so we’re heading south tomorrow to my aunt’s house in Fallbrook. We’ll hit up the San Diego Zoo and who knows what else. Then we’ll be back in  Santa Monica till they leave—doing the beach thing, and probably one touristy thing on Sunday. I think I’ll give Matthew a choice for what we do…so who knows where we’ll end up!

  1. Glad you had an amazing year! I have been following you since you moved there and I can tell, even without knowing you, you have changed in so many great ways 🙂 I’m happy for you Lisa!

  2. Very cool Lisa, I’ve enjoyed living vicariously through what you’ve shared of your California adventures! Is your new place bigger or about the same? I can totally appreciate the simplicity of a small living space. Can’t wait to see what’s next for you!

  3. FINALLY! Sad that I’ll never see it in person… but more motivation for me to find time to just come out and visit in the future. I can’t believe you’ve been gone for a year! Looking forward to seeing you in October!
