Instagram Update: Who has been making my recipes?

In the past couple weeks, I’ve been instagramming a lot (yes, that’s now a verb), as you can see in the left sidebar (if you roll your mouse over the pics you can read the captions). I like it because it’s all visually based and there are quick little interactions with people, either in the form of a “Like” or a comment. I love writing here too, but it’s way easier to do small quick picture captions than a whole blog post (and lately my time has been pretty scattered, but I’m working on it!).

Anyway, I thought I’d just post a bunch of pics I was tagged in on Instagram of recipes of mine that people made over the last week or so! I think the most popular one is definitely the pb cups, followed by the coconut flour flatbread.

Here you go:

Phew! So, I got most of the captions included, and I think I put them all together with the right pics… Some of them wouldn’t allow me to crop the edges of the screen shot, so we’re just gonna go with it how it is!

Anyway, I’m super thrilled that people are trying my recipes and I love instagram because I get to see the results! Some great modifications and additions were made too—and I’ve gotten some new ideas to play around with along the way.

Do you use instagram? Find me there! I’m working on following people back who interact with me, so just leaeve a comment on one of my pics, and I’ll follow you back! @lisakthrives

News/Notes: It’s another beautiful day in Santa Monica. I’ve been working all day, with the exception of doing yoga mid-morning. I’m finding my apartment to be awesome, even with no furniture (yet)! The only weird thing is that the building next door is really close, and so I can see and hear everything people are doing over there—phones ringing, showers turning on and off, conversations, music… And last night, I was catching up on New Girl on Hulu when I looked out the window and realized I was looking straight into someone’s shower (while she was in it). Dark outside, lights on in her bathroom, window in the shower wide open… I closed my blinds out of respect, but, uh, ew!

I made the most fantastic (if I do say so myself) brownie stovetop cookies. I modified the coconut flour cookies to be chocolate and to have more of a brownie texture… I want to make them one more time before I share—I’m very excited about them!

Other random things: I decided I’m going to have a personal rule not to use my cell phone when I’m walking places. It’s too easy to read, text, and waste time and not pay any attention to my surroundings. In an effort to be “present” and aware, I just put my phone away (and maybe sneak a peak when standing at a stop light). I’ve been doing this for a week, and it seems really worthwhile!

Another thing I’m doing is drinking a lot more water. It was difficult at first, but it’s getting easier. I’m up to about 70-80 ounces a day, and I definitely feel differently (plus, I can see how it is positively affecting my skin, which was really dry before).

I’ve been asked to talk about what I eat on a daily basis, so I’m putting together a post to include that kind of thing. Hopefully it will be up tomorrow!

What new things are you doing to improve the quality of your life (even if it’s tiny, like putting your phone away for a bit!)?

Oh so cool!! I am on instagram but my poor phone can’t handle the app. It just sucks the last bit of memory and crashes all the time 🙁

  2. I bought coconut flour this weekend in your honor Lisa. I never remember to look for it when I’m shopping, but when my eyes fell upon it at Abundance over the weekend I threw it straight into my basket and thought of you! Your coconut flat breads are in my future.

Trader Joe’s is now open in Pittsford Plaza, although I know you’ve got Whole Foods right around the corner now… even better! Upstate NY misses you, CA is lucky to have you! 🙂 I’m enjoying reading about your west coast adventures and all the great places life is taking you.

  3. Isn’t coconut oil really bad for you? Saturated fat wise? Why is it used instead of a different oil?

  4. Hi Yvonne, In my opinion, coconut oil is one of the healthiest oils around… Here’s where I talk about it: http://www.thrive-style.com/2011/12/saturated-fat-benefits-and-coconut-cream-mousse/ And here is one of my favorite explanations: http://www.thefitnessdish.com/?p=9976
I try to use coconut oil in as much as I can, especially things that will be heated (since other less stable oils become rancid at high temps).

  6. Soooo hungry after seeing this post 😛 I am making more of your recipes this weekend, watch for them on instagram! To improve my quality of life, I went without social media 2 saturdays ago. It felt great to be freed from being connected! I hope to do more of that, and being more present in life 🙂 Hope all is well! Miss you!!

instagramming can definitely be an action word! we’ll add in in with googling, blogging, fb’ing!…i like your personal cell phone rule – i so agree: soak up your surroundings and appreciate the environment. i bet you are in the minority, most people using their smartphone etc as they walk about!
i have been soaking in the gorgeous fall colours here…the leaves are now past their prime, but they sure were amazing with the reds, oranges and yellows this year!

  8. Looks like I have someone new to follow on Instagram!!!
I’m The Candid RD (haha, so original) and I when I first got Instagram I was obsessed. One thing I AM doing is NOT using it all day long anymore 🙂 It’s nice to take a break, but it’s also nice to have a fun new toy to play with!
