It’s Spring Break again! Time to Clean…and Cleanse.

I love spring—I have this feeling like it’s all uphill from here! I also love weekends, and I’m on spring break from 1/9 of my work responsibilities. I’m going to do work tonight until I have things caught up, so I can relax tomorrow and go to a new yoga class. ย Anyone in Rochester/Canandaigua area should come—it’s free! ย My friend Sandy is doing a Mukta class at 12:30 at Grounded by Yoga in Bloomfield. It’s approximately 20 minutes from Pittsford Plaza and about 10 minutes from the main intersection at the bottom of Main Street in Canandaigua. ย (Email me if you’re coming!)

I’ve been juicing a lot this week.

TBJ (To Be Juiced)
Cleansing Drink: Celery, Watercress, Romaine, Lime, Stevia, Orange Extract
You'll only like this if you like watercress---which is awesome for cleansing purposes, but also tastes "spicy" (not my favorite, but I'll sacrifice for the benefits sometimes!)

I’m going to be redesigning my life slightly over the next three months. I’m excited–we’re moving, I’m going on three vacations, and I have new projects in the works. I also just realized that my gym plans to charge me $234 for adding three months onto my membership (that ends May 8th), so I’m dumping the gym membership. Seriously, I switched to that gym because it was cheaper than Midtown, but since the short-term nature of my commitment to them is going to prevent me from saving money (and it’s going to be summer…and I have all the equipment I need at home to work out anyway), I’ll be gym-less until I move in August.

As a supplement to that, I’m going to plan some straightforward home workouts using minimal equipment. I’ll post them here if anyone is interested (I have a degree in exercise science and an ACSM certification). My philosophy on working out is getting the most bang for your buck (I like a high benefit to effort ratio). I don’t want to look like Zuzana from BodyRock or work as hard as she does, and I don’t think many other people do either (even if no one admits it!)…but I like the short format, and the strategies of variety and muscle confusion.

Do you belong to a gym? Why or why not? ย What’s your favorite type of workout?

Are you doing any spring cleaning?

Here’s one of my favorite cheap cleansing facial masks: The Gunk Magnet Facial

Stay tuned—I think on Sunday I’m going to be posting a really awesome giveaway!

  1. You know how there are crazy cat ladies? I think one day I would like to be the Crazy Juice Lady. And Salad Lady. You should see the salad I am scarfing right now, and it is almost as good as the one we made!

What's Mukta yoga?! Maybe I'll join:) Slash whaaaaat! Girl yous my gym buddy, when does it end? ๐Ÿ™

p.s. Can we make that facial next time I come over? It sounds so good, I am in love with any and all clay masks

  2. Your juice looks delish! Where did you find that straw? I love it! Where did you get your Exercise Science degree? I have my bachelors in Exercise Science from SUNY Buffalo.

  3. I so wish I had a juicer! Good for you for ditching the gym, I would NOT pay that much either! I do go to the gym, but I got a super good deal on my pass from costco so I only pay $11 per month. Its pretty sweet =)

  4. I bought the straw from a company called Strawsome online. I love it! If you

buy one, definitely get the little cleaner brush that can come with it. I

had one without the cleaner…and it was impossible to clean out after

    drinking a smoothie with it!

I got my Exercise Science degree from Ithaca College…we should collaborate

    on something!

  5. Yes on the facial—I love that stuff!

I have till May 8th on the gym membership. I didn't realize they'd charge

that much—I don't typically go to the gym as much in the summer, so I

don't think their cost is worth it for me. BUT…we can still go on bike

rides and do our workouts outside!

  6. i'm so excited FOR you, lisa, with your upcoming New Experiences! I think it's easier to embrace change in Spring than at any other time of year. You sound really energized, too!
i currently do not have a gym membership. we have a gym in our condo building that has everything i want/need INCLUDING a stairmaster (i have my own stairmaster-brand stairmaster, too!) but i am a real gym junkie. that's crazy expensive what yours wants to charge you! i'd ditch it, too.
i'm eager to do spring cleaning, but have yet to start…it usually snowballs into a mega-hours job!
i'll look forward to your giveaway!

  7. Ohh, I'm loving the green! This week coming up is April vacation week, which means I'm cleansing too! Not too harshly, since I haven't quite gained back some weight that I lost during my last cleanse in February, but green things will be plentiful in my fridge.
    Be well, lisa!

  8. Oooh I would love to see what workouts you come up with!! ๐Ÿ˜€
I'm trying a cleansing of sorts by figuring out what it is that is making me feel bloated and queasy. I'm trying to go light on the gluten and see how that works out!

  9. I do belong to a gym — for me I like access to weights and treadmills during not so good weather. Plus we found a cheap one that is $25/month for the two of us. There aren't any classes and the hours are somewhat limited, also no showers, no pool, etc. Pretty bare bones but that is all we need!

Spring cleaning — yes we are definitely in the middle of that. Feels good to donate/throw away stuff!

  10. Yes! I can't wait for the gym- free workouts! I've always been too cheap for gym memberships, I like to do kickboxing and aerobics at home instead.

I've never “juiced” anything, but for some reason tonight that greens drink looks really good. Perhaps my body is telling me something?

  11. I do belong to a gym – the YMCA – but it's mostly so Adam can play sports there! I usually do all of my workouts at home or I run outside.

Spring cleaning is always a must! ๐Ÿ™‚

  12. I could so drink that juice right now. It looks lovely. I like spicy but haven't done watercress or arugula yet. I need to work out more. I went to yoga last week and get to go once a week. Life is really hectic. However if you post some home routines…I am sure to follow.

  13. I just checked out their website….i love them! I will definitely be ordering one. Thanks for the tip about the cleaning brush. I would not have thought about that.

Yes! Lets collaborate on something ๐Ÿ™‚

  14. So much change to look forward to!

I'm gearing up for a 7-day dietary cleanse in May. I do 7 – 14 day cleanses each season. I'm ready for one!

I belong to a gym and use it most heavily in the winter. In the summer it's a place to stop by if I remember that I need to lift weights ๐Ÿ™‚

  15. Change is both exciting and a little bit scary! Are you moving to a new city? Or a new house in the same area?

I love your glass straw. I'm actually planning on buying some of those…I've been becoming more and more aware of how much one-time-use plastic there is in our throwaway world.

  16. Heather (All Sizzle No Steak)

Three vacations? SO jealous. My favourite work outs are ZUMBA or yoga.

  17. TBJ…. love it ๐Ÿ™‚

I haven't belonged to a gym in forever! In Vancouver I lived in an apartment with a gym and now I live in a place where I can run outside pretty much year 'round. I miss taking classes, but I think you're smart to cancel your membership while the weather's nice.

  18. You are so much better than I am. No matter what the health benefits of something, if it doesn't taste good I can't choke it down. I am like a little kid it will not happen!

I do belong to a gym right now but only for a few more weeks. I am moving and the apt. building I will be living in has one! I am so excited because I don't go to the gym for the group atmosphere. I am usually working out on my own anyways and if I want to take a class its generally at a small studio anyways.
